
NVC 2026 Theme: “Visionaries”
As we approach 2026 with evolving challenges in disaster management and unprecedented changes in our field, we invite workshop proposals that embody visionary thinking, innovation, and forward-looking solutions. We are seeking sessions that challenge conventional approaches and inspire our community to reimagine disaster response and recovery.
What We Are Looking For
PRIORITY TOPICS for “Visionaries” Theme:
- Emerging technologies transforming disaster response
- Innovative funding models and sustainability strategies
- Next-generation partnerships and collaboration models
- Adaptive leadership in crisis environments
- Future-facing community resilience strategies
- Lessons learned that are reshaping our approach
- Breakthrough case studies from recent disasters
Workshop Format Requirements
We are prioritizing INTERACTIVE and EXPERIENTIAL sessions. Traditional lecture-style presentations will NOT be selected.
Your proposal MUST include:
- Interactive elements (live polling, small group discussions, case study exercises, role-playing, simulations, problem-solving activities)
- Minimal slide usage (maximum 8-10 slides for 60 minute session)
- Participant engagement strategy – How will attendees actively contribute?
- Takeaway tools – What will participants leave with that they can immediately implement?
Strongly Encouraged:
- Diverse panels representing non-profit, public, private, higher education, and local/state/federal perspectives
- Real-world problem-solving where attendees help develop solutions
- Fishbowl discussions, World Café formats, or attendee focused-style dialogues
- Technology integration (live collaboration tools, interactive platforms)
Selection Criteria (Weighted)
Workshop proposals will be scored by our Conference Workshop Review Committee using the following guidance:
- INNOVATION & RELEVANCE (30%): Does this present visionary, forward-thinking content that challenges current practices? Is it addressing what’s NEXT in our field?
- INTERACTIVITY & ENGAGEMENT (25%): How actively will participants engage? Does the format go beyond a traditional presentation? Will attendees leave energized?
- ACTIONABLE IMPLEMENTATION (20%): Can attendees apply learnings immediately? Are there concrete tools, templates, or frameworks provided?
- COLLABORATION MODEL (15%): Does this showcase innovative partnerships, especially cross-sector collaboration?
- SESSION DESIGN (10%): Is the 60-minute format well-structured with clear outcomes and appropriate time for interaction?
What Will NOT be Accepted
- Slide-heavy presentations with minimal interaction
- Sales pitches or promotional content
- Sessions without clear, actionable takeaways
- Lectures without audience participation
- Previously presented content without significant updates
- Single-perspective panels (we want diverse voices)
Submission Requirements
Your proposal must include:
- Workshop title (compelling and clear)
- 75-word description for conference program
- Detailed session outline including:
- Timeline breakdown showing interactive segments
- Specific engagement strategies
- Materials/handouts participants will receive
- Learning objectives (3-5 actionable outcomes)
- Presenter bios (include expertise relevant to “Visionaries” theme)
- Technical requirements (if using interactive technology)
Important Notes
- Room assignments and setup will be determined by Conference Planning team based on session needs
- Previous no-shows without notification will not be considered
- National VOAD cannot offer presenter discounts; presenters cover all attendance costs
- You may submit or be included in up to 2 proposals (individual or panel)
- Selected presenters must submit final materials 30 days prior to conference

Our diverse Review Committee includes National VOAD members, partners, board members, and staff representing various sectors. We are committed to creating a conference program that is:

- Highly interactive
- Immediately applicable
- Diverse in perspectives
